Several IITs and other institutions offer five-year integrated M.Tech programs that combine undergraduate and postgraduate education. For students who are clear about wanting to pursue higher studies or research-oriented careers, these programs present an alternative to the conventional path of completing a four-year B.Tech and then applying for a separate M.Tech or MS.

The integrated route offers several potential advantages. Students are admitted through JEE Advanced, which means they enter with a strong peer group. The program provides continuity — students do not need to go through another competitive entrance examination after four years.
